Minding Your Spiritual Business

I Believe!

We were working outside today in a typical Las Vegas fall day. The sun was shining, the temperature was in the mid 80’s and all was right in the world except for one thing. Now I would consider myself a religious person because I do have a specific system of beliefs that I try to adhere to. But I would not call myself a fanatic or an ultra-religious person because I do try to live in the here and now.

But I have found something new to believe in. I know, I know, I can hear you telling me already; “You can’t see it, how can you believe in it!” Well I know it is difficult to understand but I do believe I really do! I saw this invisible “entity” move ladders across the ground while we were working. I saw it grab a piece of plywood and push it and me EVEN THOUGH IT IS INVISIBLE! People have tried to harness its power by milling it into electricity, or getting it to push boats across oceans and seas. But I don’t think it can be tamed like that. I have seen it do amazing and unbelievable destruction to homes, hotels and businesses that stood in its way. EVEN THOUGH IT IS INVISIBLE!

Most of you know what I am talking about but in just in case, I am talking about wind. Have you ever just sat down in your easy chair looking outside you picture WINDow, or while driving behind your nice WINDshield contemplating wind? I may sound like a crazy WINDbag and simply get WINDed shouting about it but I think my WINDpipe can handle a bit more. WIND IS INVISIBLE! We can see what it carries, what it pushes, or what it leaves behind but we cannot see wind. Most of us don’t have a problem believing in wind, even though we cannot see it. Do you believe in something you cannot see?

My wife and I took friends out to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon and just looked. We didn’t go there to see billions of years of water carving out this landscape; we went there because we believe in the invisible. The canyon inspires awe because it is a piece of art, not a product of time and erosion. I believe in what the invisible left behind, I have felt its push and seen it carry people in difficult times. I believe in the invisible, do you?
