I was cleaning up some of the planters that I have in our back yard. We have dwarf fruit trees and strawberries in them and I have to keep ahead of the weeds that seem to spring up out of nowhere. I find it interesting that we have to plant fruit and vegetables and care for them but weeds don’t need to be planted or cared for in order to grow. Maybe there is a lesson there somewhere.
While I was pulling the weeds I noticed a couple of small little “sucker” branches growing on my dwarf lemon tree. I didn’t want the tree to turn into a bush so I took those small branches off, each had two or three little leaves on them but they were easy to remove from the main trunk of the tree. I went on to pull the rest of the weeds from the planters and when I was done I had a very distinct smell of lemons on my hand. I washed them and the lemon was still there. I went to the lemon tree and smelled the leaves and caught a STRONG lemon smell. Even after pulling weeds, washing them and washing them again, I still had the lemon smell on my hand. That is some strong stuff.
I went to lunch with a man who hung out with the wrong people at work and ended up having an “affair.” Just one time that lasted for five minutes. The affair was almost ten years ago but the smell was still on him. It still dominated his conversation. When people referred to him he was “the one who broke up his marriage with a five minute affair.” He had to change jobs and was never the same since. The smell was still on him from a five minute encounter ten years ago. As I left the restaurant I ran into a guy I had helped out a year ago, he remembered me and after he jogged my memory I recognized his face as well. He wanted to buy me lunch and asked if I needed anything. Hmm ... there’s that lemon smell again, this time it smelled good. So, what kind of smell do you have hangin’ around you?
