As much as computers have been the new frontier for the 90's, I believe that Genetic Engineering and Cloning will be the new frontier of this decade. We have already been assailed with cloned sheep, mice, chickens and rats. We have had psycho groups claim to have a cloned child stored away somewhere and we have had serious scientists working inside and outside of the United States cloning human cells. A company called ACT has cloned human cells to the point of stem cells. (The human cells which branch off into all kinds of human body tissue.) I will predict that by the end of this decade, 2010, we will have cloned organs available to us. We will have cloned brain cells that will be able to improve a Parkinson's ravaged brain. We will have replaceable lung, liver and even heart tissue that are made to our order, for our bodies. All this is called Therapeutic cloning and is happening NOW in labs, tomorrow in research universities and by the end of the decade in your local hospital.
The former new frontier: computers, has faded into obscurity simply because of it's success. You have a computer at work, school, home, in your car, in your oven, in your washing machine, in your walkman, in your cell phone, in your shaver, and even in your clothes. Computers have taken over the world. I believe that genetic engineering will do the same in the next decade. You will wonder what all the hubbub was about back in the early 2000's.
It is an exciting new frontier and where will you fit in with that. I know the church is traditionally 10 years behind the culture so the church is just getting into computer technology now. But the church HAS to get into the game. This new frontier will need some moral boundaries in order for it to progress as it should and NOT progress into a Nazi-type super race. You know how that ended up...
What are those boundaries? What can possibly control the goliath-like progress of the engineers of our genes? Let's go talk to David.
