For those readers who are reading the WB, we are heading back to the OT on day six. You will notice that some of the stories found in Chronicles are familiar. The books of Chronicles cover the same time period as the books of Samuel and Kings. I & II Samuel and I & II Kings are more of the historical accounts of the events covered in that time period. The books of I & II Chronicles have more of a spiritual focus. The books of Chronicles emphasize the worship and temple more than its counter part. One will often find more of the spiritual "Why" for an event in these books.
This is the time line for the end of the OT:
| Years | Foundational books | Other books during the same time period |
|---|---|---|
| 1050-1010 BC | I Samuel | |
| 1010-970 BC | II Samuel, I Chronicle | |
| 970-931 BC | Song of Solomon, Prov, Ecc, II Samuel |
|
| 931-721 BC | I Kings, I Chronicle | Joel, Jonah, Amos, Hosea |
| 721-586 BC | End of I Kings, Beginning of II Kg |
Isaiah, Micah, Nahum, Zeph, Hab |
| 586-536 BC | II Kings, II Chronicles | II Chronicles, Dan, Eze, Jer, Lam, Obad |
| 536-400 BC | Ezra, Esther, Nehemiah | Hag, Zech, Mal |
I hope that chart helps you keep some of the book straight as to their timing and chronology.

Always begin your time of God with prayer. Ask him for understanding and insights. You can pick out a verse, thought or feeling from the passage and think on it (mediate) on it all day. Meditating on God's word means to digest it, put it into your mind, think on it, and concentrate in different ways on the passage.
Some ways you can do this is:
1. Put yourself into the scene.
2. Emphasize different words in the verse.
3. Paraphrase the passage in your own words.
4. Pray the passage back to God if it is a prayer, song, poem, etc (personalize it).
5. Use SPACE PETS acrostic to ask some standard questions.
S - Sins to confess? Do I need to make restitution?
P - Promises to claim? Have I met the conditions(s)?
A - Attitudes to change? Am I willing?
C - Commands to obey? Even if I don't feel like it?
E - Examples to follow? One to copy or avoid?
P - Prayers to pray? Is there something I need to tell God?
E - Errors to avoid?
T - Truths about God or the Bible I need to believe?
